Back From My Hiatus

I am not one to ever give up on something but there are times when taking a break is necessary. In my case a three-month break to be exact. When I took on my new job a few months back my schedule completely changed and it through me out of my rhythm. I am happy to say that things are starting to settle down for me now and I am finding a nice routine for these new changes. I have missed blogging so very much, so much that I am more inspired now than ever before to re-create my vision for it. Over the next few months I will be redesigning my space to provide optimal inspiration for my writing. I’m so excited to start this journey again and I hope that each and every one of you will continue to follow me as I get back into what I love the most. Until next time, have a wonderful week to all of my fabulous followers!

DIY: Sock Bun

sock bun 1

One of my new favorite hair trends is the sock bun. I love how easy it is to pull my hair up and go. The best thing of all is that it takes only a couple of minutes to perfect the look. I will warn you, if you have layers like I do, it does take a little more time to tuck away the smaller strands. All you will need is a sock and some scissors. If you have dark hair I suggest a black or brown sock and it you have lighter hair I suggest  a white or cream-colored sock. This look is perfect for a date night, a day at the office, or any other time you want to look fabulous!

Step 4: Put your hair into a ponytail and pull your hair through the sock like so.

Step 5: Begin to fold your hair over the sock and slowly roll the sock and tuck your hair under as you move down to the base of your ponytail.

Step 6: Finish by tucking any strands and pinning with a bobby pin or hair pin.

Polish color -’Penny Talk’ from Essie’s Metallic collection

If there is one shoe designer that I love the most I would have to say it is Christian Louboutin. There is something about the shiny red soles that give his shoes that extra “Wow” factor that I love. I decided to incorporate my love for the red bottom heels into my manicure. This is a manicure that can be done at home or in your salon (just request it at the beginning of your visit). I chose to go with oval nails since I love the trend. I chose a rose gold color for my nails but don’t feel that you have to choose a basic color. Get creative with your design or color, after all Louboutins are far from basic in their colors and designs. The best part of all these will make a fashionable statement and are still office appropriate.

Kick The Winter Blues

If you are anything like me, you may start to have an onset of seasonal depression right around this time of the year. The holiday parties that once filled your planner are now filled with deadlines and thesis papers. The sun has seemed to go into hiding, and the temperatures are ridiculously low. I’m sure mostly anyone on the east coast can relate. These winter months can really take a toll on your mood and your skin, so what better way to kick the winter blues in the butt than with these mood-enhancing beauty products.

physicans formula

Euphoryl- You are probably going to see this chemical popping up in a lot beauty products everywhere. It is said that euphoryl stimulates the production of dopamine and endorphins that produce happiness and energy. This product was created by Laboratoires Serobiologiques and is now being used by a drugstore favorite called Physician’s Formula. I think the pink color and heart designs are enough to put a little smile on my face and a little color on my cheeks.

lotion

Caffeine- Many of us are familiar with caffeine in drinks but what about in our skin care products? Well it seems that caffeine is a great anti-aging tool. Since caffeine is rich with antioxidants it packs a big punch. It helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite, and redness on your skin and also serves as an anti-inflammatory. There really isn’t any way you could convince me NOT to use lotions that contain caffeine if it has this many benefits. It is definitely what our skin needs during these cold winter months. Think of it as a latte for your skin!

oil

Aromatherapy- For anyone who prefers a more natural approach to mood enhancement I highly recommend getting your hands on essential aromatherapy oils. Scents such as peppermint, grapefruit, and lemon can inspire happier thoughts, even throughout these cold dreary months. Stop by your local health store or oil bar and create your own blend. I love the fact that you can bottle your scents into a roll-on container and apply as needed throughout the day.

butter nail polish

Color Therapy- Sometimes all we need is a little color in our life. During the winter months we tend to flock towards neutrals, blacks, and browns in our wardrobe and forget about the bright bold colors that we wear in the summer. Adding some color, even in minimal ways, can boost your mood and get you excited for the spring. Next time you are at the drugstore bypass the dark colors and head for the bright colors.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Yesterday night the stars came out for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Hollywood’s finest were dressed to the nine in gorgeous gowns and sleek tailored suits. Oscar De La Renta and Alexander McQueen were just a few of the many designers whose designs made an appearance on the red carpet. One of my personal favorites for the night was Jennifer Lopez in a beautiful lace gown by Zuhair Murad. She turned up the glam by wearing an old hollywood styled hairdo and some chandelier earrings. Besides Jennifer Lopez there were several other celebs that looked just as stunning. It was very difficult trying to decide which gowns were my favorites from the evening but I managed to narrow them down to my top eight! Who were some of your favorite dressed celebs last night at the Globes?
