If you are anything like me, you may start to have an onset of seasonal depression right around this time of the year. The holiday parties that once filled your planner are now filled with deadlines and thesis papers. The sun has seemed to go into hiding, and the temperatures are ridiculously low. I’m sure mostly anyone on the east coast can relate. These winter months can really take a toll on your mood and your skin, so what better way to kick the winter blues in the butt than with these mood-enhancing beauty products.

Euphoryl- You are probably going to see this chemical popping up in a lot beauty products everywhere. It is said that euphoryl stimulates the production of dopamine and endorphins that produce happiness and energy. This product was created by Laboratoires Serobiologiques and is now being used by a drugstore favorite called Physician’s Formula. I think the pink color and heart designs are enough to put a little smile on my face and a little color on my cheeks.

Caffeine- Many of us are familiar with caffeine in drinks but what about in our skin care products? Well it seems that caffeine is a great anti-aging tool. Since caffeine is rich with antioxidants it packs a big punch. It helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite, and redness on your skin and also serves as an anti-inflammatory. There really isn’t any way you could convince me NOT to use lotions that contain caffeine if it has this many benefits. It is definitely what our skin needs during these cold winter months. Think of it as a latte for your skin!

Aromatherapy- For anyone who prefers a more natural approach to mood enhancement I highly recommend getting your hands on essential aromatherapy oils. Scents such as peppermint, grapefruit, and lemon can inspire happier thoughts, even throughout these cold dreary months. Stop by your local health store or oil bar and create your own blend. I love the fact that you can bottle your scents into a roll-on container and apply as needed throughout the day.

Color Therapy- Sometimes all we need is a little color in our life. During the winter months we tend to flock towards neutrals, blacks, and browns in our wardrobe and forget about the bright bold colors that we wear in the summer. Adding some color, even in minimal ways, can boost your mood and get you excited for the spring. Next time you are at the drugstore bypass the dark colors and head for the bright colors.
